"It'll ship here, it'll ship everywhere," Rohde said. To him, Tokyo Jungle's worldwide release is emblematic of Sony's "crazy innovative" approach. "That game is just wacky, but in a good way, because we like to show that there's still an art form, and you can still experiment," he said. "Is everyone gonna love a game like Tokyo Jungle? Absolutely not, but there's a whole bunch of people it's gonna make really happy. Specifically for the fact that it's so different, and so unexpected. That's a key part of the culture of Worldwide Studios and how our games are developed."
Though he couldn't name one specific person internally who championed the previously Japan-only game, Rohde extolled the internal culture that allows games like that to be created. "Someone has a key vision in our [Japan Studios] about Tokyo Jungle, they wanted to build this game. And so we're gonna embrace that. And of course we discuss it, and if it doesn't make sense, we can walk away. We walk away from dozens and dozens of titles every year. But the difference is, we actually build them out to a certain extent. And when they hit a point where we think, 'You know what? This is pretty interesting and it's gonna make some people happy,' we're gonna build it."
Frankly, we're pretty darn happy this one made it through the wringer. Tokyo Jungle doesn't have a release date or price just yet.

One of the most important things you can do to aide your business success is self-improvement. Yet, most people don?t even consider it. It?s not often you come across someone who was born with all the characteristics already in place to build and maintain a moneymaking business. It doesn?t matter how smart you are or what your capabilities are, you will still run into hurdles. Although, again and again, we let our thoughts become blocks to our business success. If you spend most of your thoughts on thinking you will probably not succeed, than that will be your reality. The more often you think about a subject, the harder your mind will work to manifest it in your life. The following information will make it clearer to you how self-improvement can make it much easier for you to have a profitable business.
Have you always had a problem trying out something new? Recognize this and realize that this might mean you do not like to venture away from the things you have always felt comfortable doing. If that?s the case, then it?s plain you are not comfortable leaving your normal routines behind and focusing on something new. Facing life?s uncertainties and challenges that make us feel ill at ease is common to most people, so don?t feel like you are the only one. Expect to have to tackle varied areas that will cause you discomfort, but learn to overcome your resistance. One important aspect of a successful business person you must adopt is recognizing the areas you are comfortable operating in and identifying the things that cause you stress and anxiety. A good solution would be to just address one small issue at a time, not the whole problem Work on a small part of the issue that is difficult for you, but chose one that is not too intimidating. Persevere with this beginning step until it?s complete. Afterwards, you will have the confidence to move on to another challenge ? perhaps a little more difficult. Another area that can be important has to do with trusting people to do our work for us. This can be a real issue if you are trying to expand your online business. Do a little self assessment to determine how pervasive those feelings are in your life. If you do, then that is a clear sign that this needs to be worked on. If this brings you stress, then take smaller bites of the problem so it is more manageable. You could just work on the origin of the mistrust, or you can face it with small outsource tasks so you can face it and work to improve. The bottom line is you realize you have to find a way to proceed with your business life.
So many interferences with success are often found to be doing the same thing in your personal life, as well. If you need an example, just take a look at self criticism. Sometimes it seems that writers can suffer from that in an insidious way. But generally speaking, this behavior will often be seen with a perfectionist attitude. It does seem to us that this particular way of being is something that is not born in us. No matter what we want to change, self-awareness is paramount to success. Learn to accept your self more, and that is the path to turning the volume down in your head. Remember that you have to be more gentle on your self, and that will need to have some time. Self improvement requires a lot of courage on anyone who undertakes the process. So then it comes down to the question of what are you willing to do for your business? You do realize that positive action is what is needed, and this is no different.

More than 40 percent of men in the U.S. will show signs of male-pattern baldness sometime between the ages of 18 and 49. But studies looking at the genomes of this group of men have failed to turn up a genetic cause, which makes a true cure seem an unlikely prospect. ?
Treatments for male-pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia, may be forthcoming, however. Recent work is homing in on three types, including one that was reported in March in the journal Science. In the new paper, George Cotsarelis of the University of Pennsylvania and his team found that a compound known as prostaglandin D2 (PD2) was elevated in the blood of men with male-pattern baldness. When they blocked PD2 receptors in mice, they ensured that the hair did not stop growing. Those blockers could be applied topically, Cotsarelis says.
He is also working on growing new hair. Researchers have noticed that if you wound a mouse, the animal generates new hair follicles as part of the healing process. The new follicles come from skin cells that turn into hair follicles through what is called the Wnt-mediated signaling pathway. It is the same pathway that helps you generate new hairs naturally as they fall out. Cotsarelis is working with a company to replicate that process.
A third approach, called follicular neogenesis, would allow doctors to remove, multiply and then reimplant the stem cells found inside a person?s hair follicles. So far, though, when researchers remove the stem cells and culture them, the cells appear to ?forget? they were ever hair cells. Researchers are now attempting to figure out how to restore their ?memory.?
As scientists continue to search for treatments to androgenic alopecia, they recommend patience. ?People think of it like growing grass or something, but it?s nothing like that,? Cotsarelis says. ?It?s like trying to treat cancer; it?s a complicated process.?

ScienceDaily (June 7, 2012) ? In exploring the genetics of mitochondria -- the powerhouse of the cell -- researchers at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have stumbled upon a finding that challenges previously held beliefs about the role of mutations in cancer development.
For the first time, researchers have found that the number of new mutations are significantly lower in cancers than in normal cells.
"This is completely opposite of what we see in nuclear DNA, which has an increased overall mutation burden in cancer," said cancer geneticist Jason Bielas, Ph.D., whose findings are published in the June 7 issue of PLoS Genetics.
Mutations are changes in the genetic sequence of a cell's genome and can occur as a result of environmental exposure to viruses, radiation and certain chemicals, or due to spontaneous errors during cell division or DNA replication.
Mitochondria, which are primarily responsible for the cell's energy production, are semi-autonomous; similar to the nucleus, they have their own set of DNA, which encodes genes critical for the functioning of the cell. While the role of genomic instability has been well characterized in nuclear DNA, this is the first attempt to determine whether instability in mitochondrial DNA may play a similar role in cancer growth and metastasis.
"We were surprised to find that the frequency of new mutations in mitochondrial DNA from tumor cells is decreased compared to that of normal cells," said Bielas, an assistant member of the Public Health Sciences and Human Biology divisions at the Hutchinson Center. "By extension, this suggests, somewhat counterintuitively, that higher mitcochondrial mutation rates may actually serve as a barrier to cancer development, and drugs that focus directly on increasing mitochondrial DNA damage and mutation might swap cancer's immortality for accelerated aging and tumor-cell death."
For the study, the researchers used using an ultra-sensitive test to detect mutations in mitochondrial DNA from normal and cancerous colon tissue resected from 20 patients prior to chemotherapy.
Bielas and colleagues first set out to analyze mutation rates in mitochondrial DNA because they wanted to see if it could act as a surrogate for nuclear DNA as a cancer biomarker. "Cells contain a thousandfold more mitochondrial genetic material than nuclear DNA, so theoretically you'd need a thousand times less tissue to get the same genetic information to predict clinical outcomes such as how fast a tumor would progress or whether it would be resistant to therapy," Bielas said.
While mitochondrial DNA proved to be an unreliable stand-in for nuclear DNA as a cancer biomarker, it offers promise as a new drug target.
"If we could increase DNA damage and mutation within the mitochondrial genome, theoretically we could decrease cancer," Bielas said. "That's what we're testing now. This is a whole new hypothesis."
The way mitochondria maintain genetic stability in the face of cancer, Bielas suggests, may be because unlike normal cells, cancer cells do not need oxygen to survive. In fact, cancer cells decrease the process by which they get energy from the mitochondria and rely instead on a process called glycolysis, which is a form of energy production in the absence of oxygen. "We believe less damage occurs to mitochondrial DNA of cancer cells because they no longer need oxygen," he said. "If we could program a cancer cell to once again need oxygen, we expect it would die -- with minimal side effects."
Bielas and colleagues are now testing this theory in the laboratory, seeing whether cancer cells that are reprogrammed to utilize oxygen and/or are targeted for mitochondrial DNA damage respond better to certain therapeutic agents.
"This finding is a game-changer because it challenges previous notions about the role of mutations in cancer development," said Bielas, who is also an affiliate assistant professor of pathology at the University of Washington, where the ultra-sensitive mutation-detection technology, called Random Mutation Capture, was developed. The test is so sensitive that it can detect the mutational equivalent of one misprinted letter in a library of a thousand 1,000-page books.
"This work started with the idea that there would be a huge mutation burden in the mitochondrial DNA, but our findings were completely opposite of what we had expected. Hopefully our discovery will open up new avenues for treatment, early detection and monitoring treatment response of colon cancer and other malignancies," he said.
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Ellison Medical Foundation and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center funded this research. Collaborators included researchers at the University of Washington, the University of North Carolina, and St. Vincent's University Hospital in Dublin, Ireland.

For a fast way to supercharge your health, look no further than the liquid nirvana of healthy green (purple, pink, or orange) smoothies. Drinking your veggies allows you to ratchet up the nutritional content of your diet while starting your day with a boost that rivals that of coffee.
Smoothies are an amazing way to change your energy levels, health, cravings and body.? Personally, I am not an advocate of drinking all of your meals, there is a lot to be said for chewing.? With that being said, there is a huge benefit to you when you add even one smoothie a day.
Some of the big benefits of fruit and vegetable smoothies are:
All you need to prepare a smoothie packed with vegetables and some fruits is a high-speed blender (a Vita-mix or Blendtec is ideal, but not necessary; less powerful blenders still do the trick!).
Fiber Fill
Many people fall short in their fiber consumption because they don?t get the five to ten servings of fruits and vegetables they need each day. You can quickly take in three or more servings with one 8-ounce smoothie, which puts you that much closer to meeting your daily requirement.? This is a simple, quick and delicious way to sneak spinach and kale into your diet with no cooking, and you won?t even taste it, you?ll just get all the benefits of it.
Awash with Antioxidants
In addition to boosting your fiber intake, fresh fruits and vegetables contain ample antioxidants, phytonutrients and minerals, which protect your body from the damaging effects of free radicals. This is important because over time, free radicals can wreak havoc on your body?s tissues, and if left unchecked can lead to serious health problems such as cancer.
Cancer Patients/Survivors ? Juicing or Blending
There are different schools of thought for people who have overcome diseases such as cancer.? Some people believe that juicing is the best because it is the quickest way to get nutrients delivered to your body.? It is true that this is easier on your digestive system because all of the fiber has been removed, but at the same time, all the? fiber has been removed.? If you choose to juice and you are a survivor or have a history, stick to vegetables (greens are best) because they will not cause huge spikes in your blood sugar levels.? Sugar always needs to be kept in check, since cancer and rogue cancer cells thrive on sugar.
Blending on the other hand slows down the rate at which sugar is delivered to your body because all of the fiber is in the drink along with the ?sugar juice?? A smoothie will digest slower, metabolize well and not cause insane sugar spikes and insulin spikes in your body.? Smoothies are delicious and can be enjoyed during or in between meals.? Everything that goes into the blender for your smoothie, comes out in your drink.? If you put a pound of produce in, a pound comes out in your glass.? A smoothie will also stay in your fridge for up to 24 hours because of the emulsifying process.? You can even include the nutrient powerhouses such as pineapple core, cantaloupe seeds, chia seeds, cacao, maca and much more.? You get the entire fruit or vegetable in your glass in a way that allows you to get as many as 6 servings of fruits and veggies a day.
?
Inspiring Ingredients
If you?re someone who resists eating your greens, blending them into a smoothie helps them go down easier. Mixed with an apple or your favorite fresh berries, you?ll hardly notice they?re in there! Here are some ideas for what to throw in your blender.:
Cherry-Watermelon Smoothie
Put all ingredients in your blender in the order they are listed and blend.
Core Fresh Green Smoothie
Put all ingredients in your blender in the order they are listed and blend.
I know things like spinach and baby greens are easy, but one of the best things you can do for yourself is include variety in your smoothies. If we eat the same thing every day, we can develop allergies and sensitivities. Explore what your produce section has to offer.? Here are some suggestions?
Pick anywhere from 2-8 of these raw foods to pack in along with filtered water (and ice cubes, optional) and you?re in for a nutritional treat.? Consider a ratio of 3 veggies to each fruit.? Make sure you don?t just blend fruits or you?ll be in for a massive blood sugar spike?and subsequent crash! This is a common mistake many people make. While eating more fruit obviously benefits your health, adding more vegetables to the mix helps provide sustained energy to carry you throughout your day.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is warning Syria that the international community may soon seek a resolution at the United Nations Security Council that could authorize the use of force.
In excerpts of remarks Geithner will deliver Wednesday, the Treasury Secretary calls for countries to exert "maximum financial pressure" through sanctions on the Syrian government. But he says sanctions alone cannot achieve the political change necessary in Syria after months of violence.
Geithner says unless Syria demonstrates "meaningful compliance" with current U.N. efforts to end the violence, the U.S. and other countries will "soon join in taking appropriate actions against the Syrian regime, including, if necessary, Chapter 7 action in the U.N. Security Council."
A Chapter 7 resolution authorizes actions that can ultimately include the use of military force.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A prosecutor highlighted discrepancies on Thursday between Eileen McNamee's testimony in the Roger Clemens trial this week and what she told the FBI three years ago.
Eileen McNamee, the estranged wife of Clemens' chief accuser, Brian McNamee, had testified Wednesday that when she asked her husband about a FedEx box she discovered in their home, he told her it was for his protection and wasn't any of her concern. She also said he didn't mention Clemens or any other players.
But on cross-examination, prosecutor Courtney Saleski asked her about a 2009 FBI interview in which Eileen McNamee said her husband told her the contents of the box were from players.
"I don't recall," replied Eileen McNamee, a witness for the defense.
Brian McNamee testified last month that he used the FedEx box to store medical waste from an injection of Clemens in 2001, and his wife said this week she discovered it around that time.
She testified Wednesday that saw the box again two or three years later in her husband's bedroom closet and that it was open, and that she pulled out the contents and saw some vials and what appeared to be unused needles. Yet, Saleski said, Eileen McNamee had told the FBI that the box remained sealed in the house.
"I don't recall. I was very nervous. I had two FBI agents approach me after school," the teacher replied. She said she only remembered "bits and pieces" of that interview because she was shaken up.
Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, is charged with lying when he told Congress in 2008 that he never used steroids or human growth hormone. Brian McNamee, his former strength and conditioning coach, is the only witness to claim firsthand knowledge of the pitcher using those substances.
Eileen McNamee also said she was furious with both her husband and Clemens when the former pitcher's lawyers allowed details of the McNamees' oldest son's diabetes to be revealed during a 2008 nationally televised news conference. At the news conference, Hardin played a taped phone call between the two men in which McNamee told Clemens, "My son is dying."
That wasn't true, Eileen McNamee said, although she had left her husband a message around that time about blood test results that weren't what they were supposed to be.
"Brian didn't bother to call me back. He called Roger, and told him his son was dying," she testified.
Then her 10-year-old son heard the news conference, and, "Now my son thinks he's dying."
Saleski said that Clemens could have kept the information about her son out of the news conference, but instead, "he played it for the world."
"Yes, he did," Eileen McNamee said. She acknowledged that she called her husband and told him to go after Clemens.
That morning around 3 a.m., Brian McNamee, who was not living in the house, came by to pick up the FedEx box.
"I asked him where he was going, and he said he was heading to his lawyers, and he was out the door," she recalled. Brian McNamee had testified that he decided to turn over the evidence to federal authorities against Clemens "because of what he did to my son."
On redirect questioning, Clemens lawyer Rusty Hardin asked if she knew that it was Clemens' lawyer's decision to play the tape. When the judge sustained an objection, he asked if she knew whose decision it was.
"Yes, I was told ? by you," she said.
And yet, Hardin said, she is testifying in the trial.
"Yes, because I didn't have a choice," said Eileen McNamee, who was subpoenaed to testify.
Under additional questioning from Saleski, she said that Hardin had apologized for playing the tape.
"But you're still as angry as can be at your husband?" Saleski asked. Eileen McNamee said that was true.
She also told Saleski there hadn't been any bad blood between the two men, and agreed that her husband idolized Clemens and would have done anything for him. Saleski elicited those answers to try to discredit the defense theory that Brian McNamee had a motive to fabricate evidence against Clemens.
On Wednesday, Brian McNamee had portrayed her as a shrill wife whose incessant nagging prompted him to save the medical waste he stored in the FedEx box. McNamee told the jury last month that she was worried he'd be the fall guy if there were a drug investigation and yelled at him, "You're going to go down! You're going to go down! You're going to go down!" McNamee, Clemens' strength coach at the time, said he brought the needle, swab and cotton ball from the injection home and showed it to her to reassure her.
Called to testify by Clemens' lawyers on Wednesday, Eileen McNamee seemed the antithesis of the woman described by her husband. Soft-spoken and calm, she said she didn't even know back then that her husband was injecting players with steroids and human growth hormone, or HGH.
While their accounts differ in many ways, they do dovetail in one key respect: McNamee's motive. He testified that his wife "might be right" about him being the fall guy, and he told congressional investigators in 2008 that he saved the material because of a "gut feeling" stemming from not fully trusting Clemens.
Eileen McNamee was granted immunity before her testimony because her husband linked her to transactions involving prescription drugs that could, in theory, have led to charges against her.

LORAIN ? The Lorain Fire Department is currently investigating a fire that started on the outside of a home last night.
According to Assistant Chief Dennis Livchak, firefighters were called to 1854 E. 30th St. at 11 p.m. for a house fire.
The Fire Department arrived on the scene three minutes later, and the fire was controlled by 11:25 p.m.
Jessica Maynard, resident of the home, told firefighters that she was home when she saw a bright light through the window. A neighbor then ran over and told Maynard her home was on fire.
Livchak said Maynard tried to extinguish the fire with a garden hose, but, by that time, the fire was too big.
According to Livchak, the fire began at the rear of the home and quickly engulfed it, catching the attic on fire as well. Firefighters managed to put the outside fire out and made entry into the attic to extinguish the flames.
Livchak said Maynard, her children and a cat and ferret safely escaped the home. He estimates the fire caused $30,000 in damages to the home and $10,000 in damages to the contents.
The Red Cross is providing Maynard?s family with temporary housing.
Livchak said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

I am not generally a big fan of Wes Anderson's work. I often find his films charming but shallow (like Tim Burton's work). But "Moonrise Kingdom," Anderson's new film, is so charming and so perfectly realized (perfectly cast, acted, directed, photographed, edited, scored -- the art direction, costuming, and set decoration are also sterling), that one can forget that it's rather simple and just revel in its charm, quirkiness, and humanity. Rarely have I felt a film exhibit such love of its broken, struggling characters. Also, every now and again there are moments of real depth. It's not relentlessly shallow. I was particularly moved by hints of sadness and complexity floating through the portrayals of the adult characters by Frances McDormand, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Edward Norton. Their supporting performances are a joy to behold. Would that they had more screen time. Children occupy most of the film's screen time. First-time actors Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward play 12-year-old misfits who become soul-mates at the very moment they cast eyes on each other. He is an orphan being passed around from foster home to foster home. She comes from a big family led by self-absorbed lawyers (McDormand and Murray) who keep big secrets from each other. The boy and girl write to each other (old-fashioned hand-written letters: priceless) over the course of a year or so, commiserating about their social alienation and endless failed attempts to fit in. They decide to break free from a disappointing culture, run away together, and live in the woods. As a Cub Scout, he has learned enough camping skills for them to survive, he believes. Incidentally, the affectionate parody of the Cub Scouts (here called Khaki Scouts) is brilliant. The film opens with them running away and beginning their adventure in the woods. The girl's parents and the boy's Scoutmasters then embark on a search to find them. Here and there we learn their back story through flashbacks. We also learn bits and pieces about the adults as the search gets under way. Overall, I would describe the film as a celebration of smart, artistically inclined children who never quite fit in (Wes Anderson himself?). There's also a sizable dollop of love directed to orphans of any kind. How difficult must it be to find your way in a scary world when you don't have parents or a home that feels like your own. This at times reduced me to tears. At one point the girl tells the boy that she wishes she were an orphan. Orphans are the best characters in literature, she says. Their lives are so much more interesting. The boy replies, "I love you, but you don't know what you're talking about." The pain of being orphaned travels across his gentle face in a way that has stayed with me for days. Anderson doesn't allow the film to drift too deeply into sadness, however. The film is more comedy than tragedy. But these moments of hurt anchor the film and give it weight. If Anderson can continue to make films this good, he just may turn into a filmmaker of major stature. Now having seen the film, I'm not surprised that Cannes chose it to open the festival this year. A wonderful selection. Final note: the film is co-written by Roman Coppola, son of Francis Ford Coppola. I cannot get over the amount of talent in that family. The Coppolas are the Kennedys of the American arts. They are a national treasure.

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) ? Despite his repeated efforts to delay it, Jerry Sandusky's child molestation trial was set to begin with the start of jury selection, as prosecutors and his defense lawyers chose 12 people from the area around Penn State to decide his guilt or innocence.
Sandusky's lawyer said the 68-year-old, who gained fame as defensive coordinator for the university's vaunted football team, where he won two national championships, would be in the courtroom Tuesday for the start of a trial that is expected to last several weeks.
Opening statements are likely to be made Monday, but first the jurors have to be chosen, a process that could pose a monumental challenge in a region thick with Penn State alumni, employees and football fans.
Sandusky is charged with 52 criminal counts for alleged abuse of 10 boys over 15 years, allegations he has repeatedly denied.
Among the expected witnesses are several young men who contend they were abused by Sandusky. Prosecutors have claimed that Sandusky groomed boys he met through a charity he founded for at-risk youth, then attacked them, in some cases in his own home or inside university athletic facilities.
Among the challenges for jury selection are the extraordinarily heavy news coverage of the scandal and the wide reach of The Second Mile, the youth charity Sandusky founded in 1977.
"It's going to be a very, very difficult chore to pick a jury in that community," said Brian McMonagle, a Philadelphia defense attorney unconnected to the case.
Whether those Penn State ties work to the advantage of the defense or the prosecution remains to be seen.
Prosecutors, though, were so concerned that they asked Judge John Cleland to bring in prospective jurors from another county.
"The life of the university and Centre County are inextricably intertwined, both philosophically and economically," prosecutor Joseph McGettigan wrote. "To ask members of that community to ... insulate themselves from the institution which informs so many aspects of their lives is asking too much."
Cleland rejected the request but said he would reconsider if a jury isn't selected in a reasonable amount of time.
The proceedings will begin with a pool of 200 prospective jurors out of a county of 154,000 people. They will be questioned about their feelings about Sandusky and the case, and about any personal ties to the opposing lawyers or to the defendant, who for more than 30 years ran The Second Mile, which will play a prominent role in the prosecution's case.
The defense opposed bringing in an out-of-town jury.
Edward Schwartz, a jury consultant in Lexington, Mass., said he suspects the defense will try to shape the case in such a way that the jury will take out its frustration about the firing of longtime head coach Joe Paterno in the aftermath of Sandusky's arrest.
There's risk in such a strategy, however. The jury could instead blame Sandusky for "single-handedly bringing down the reputation of an institution they love and they feel an attachment to," Schwartz said.
Paterno was dismissed in November for not acting more decisively in 2001 after a member of his coaching staff reported seeing Sandusky in the locker room showers with a boy. Paterno died of lung cancer in January at age 85.
Stephen Capone, a veteran Pittsburgh-based lawyer, said the judge will probably not automatically disqualify anyone with a Penn State connection. Instead, he said, he suspects Cleland will ask prospective jurors if their ties to the university would prevent them from rendering a fair decision, and those who answer yes will be dismissed.
Prosecutors and defense attorneys will also have a certain number of so-called peremptory challenges, which allow them to remove a potential juror without having to give a reason.
Ultimately, it may be impossible to find a jury that has no connection to Penn State or has never heard of Sandusky. The goal, McMonagle said, will be to find jurors who say they can give Sandusky a fair trial and render their verdict based on the evidence and testimony, not on what they have heard or read.
The nightmare scenario for either side, outside lawyers say, is that a prospective juror will hide his or her true feelings to get on the jury.
"The scariest thing in the world is the reality that some jurors have already formed an opinion and simply won't man up to it," said McMonagle, who has tried many high-profile cases. "They're sitting there like time bombs. That's the fear you always have to endure in a high-publicity case, particularly in a case like this."
On Monday, the judge ruled that Sandusky's alleged victims will have to testify using their real names, and that tweets or other electronic communications by reporters will not be permitted during the trial. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court, meanwhile, dashed Sandusky's hopes for a last-minute delay of the trial.
Lawyers for several of the accusers had asked that their clients be allowed to testify under fake names, a rarity in criminal cases.
"Arguably any victim of any crime would prefer not to appear in court, not to be subjected to cross-examination, not to have his or her credibility evaluated by a jury ? not to put his name and reputation at stake," the judge said. "But we ask citizens to do that every day in courts across the nation."
News organizations, including The Associated Press, typically do not identify alleged victims of sex crimes.
Penn State said on a website Monday that the scandal had cost the university $9.6 million as of March 31. That does not include the hiring of two new public relations firms in April for about $2.5 million to help with the fallout from the crisis.

The Indian government has announced the formation of the Solar Energy Industry Advisory Council (SEIAC) to help stimulate research and development and investment in the solar energy sector. The council will deliberate and offer advise to the government on matters of technology, manufacturing, and regulatory issues. The council includes some of the leading industrialists as its members.
Anand Mahindra, of Mahindra & Mahindra, has been chosen as the chairman of the council. Mahindra & Mahindra is one of the fast-emerging players in the solar power generation and EPC services sector. In addition to its own power projects, the company has set up a joint venture with Kiran Energy Limited to expand into the solar energy market in India.
The council has been tasked with the responsibility of reviewing the progress being made to achieve the targets set by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. The national solar mission aims to install 22,000 MW of solar power generation capacity by 2022. The mission has outlined intermediate milestones.
One of the main issues the council will have to consider is how to stimulate domestic manufacturing of solar modules. A large number of projects in India are importing solar modules, which has been very encouraging for domestic module manufacturers that have realised significant losses.
The council will also have to address the issue of levying duty on imported modules. The domestic manufacturers have appealed to the government to levy import duties on the large number of equipment being imported to the US, China, Taiwan, and other countries. The domestic players want anti-dumping duties levied on these imports, as they are significantly cheaper than the equipment being manufactured in India.
The formation of the council is a welcome step from the Indian government, as it would help in internal course-correction in its?endeavors to become a global solar energy leader over the next decade. As the country is still a nascent solar energy market, input from all the stakeholders would help it to become one of the leading and most attractive solar energy markets in the world.

NEW YORK -- Things are shaping up for another hot summer on Wall Street, and there is a long, long way to go yet.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will be back on Capitol Hill on Thursday to testify before a congressional committee about the state of the U.S. economy. He's not going to get an easy ride.
The blue-chip Dow average of stocks is now negative for the year. Employment appears to be slowing to a snail's pace and Europe remains mired in crisis.
"This puts the Fed firmly in play and they will likely feel compelled to respond," said Tom Porcelli, chief U.S. economist at RBC Capital Markets in New York, after data on Friday showed U.S. job growth in May was the weakest in a year.
"The missing ingredient preventing the Fed from action had been the equity market, but now we are seeing it softening," he said. "Equities are falling and that was the last hurdle for Fed policy action because all the other criteria have been met."
For last week, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.7 percent, the Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 3 percent and the Nasdaq composite index fell 3.2 percent.
The Fed's next policy meeting occurs on June 19 and 20. A Reuters poll of 15 dealers gives a 35 percent chance of the Fed extending its stimulative operating twist at that meeting. The poll showed that dealers expecting further quantitative easing, or QE3, rose to 50 percent from 33 percent in May.
Stock market rallies in each of the past three years were fueled by combinations of massive central bank and government stimulus spending. That maybe the only hope for equities this year, too.
The world's economic outlook darkened on Friday as reports showed as well as slowing U.S. employment growth, Chinese factory output barely grew and European manufacturing fell deeper into malaise.
"It certainly suggests that perhaps the softness in Europe is either influencing the U.S. or that the U.S. recovery may not be strong enough to overcome the softness in Europe," said Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at Harris Private Bank in Chicago.
"I underestimated the relationship or the alignment of the world markets to the European markets," he said. "I felt that Europe could potentially proceed in their own little corner of the world. For right now anyway it just doesn't seem that way."
Nothing tells the story of the global economy at the moment better than the world's equity markets.
Bear markets are raging in Spain, Italy, Brazil and Russia. Asian stocks have been weak. Most of Europe's other markets are negative for the year, and that is where U.S. stocks are going -- and fast.
"I don't see any compelling reason to think that we are going to have any sustained recovery absent new fiscal, monetary stimulus, not only here in the United States but perhaps even more importantly elsewhere around the world," said Clark Yingst, chief market analyst at Joseph Gunnar.
Yingst said that signs of more stimulus may be a compelling reason to get bullish.
We will be "watching very closely for new fiscal and monetary stimulus from a variety of countries. I think the source will be important, I think the magnitude, the scope will be important," he said.
On Friday, the S&P 500 fell 2.5 percent, edging below its 200-day moving average for the first time since December. The level is closely watched by investors, and a significant breach there could open the way for steeper losses.
That looks like a distinct possibility at the moment. Greece will face new elections in two weeks. A victory for parties that oppose the bailout led by the European Union and International Monetary Fund could start the ball rolling on the country's withdrawal from the euro zone.
Such an event would have unforeseen consequences for the global economy and financial markets. Part of the 6.3 percent drop in the S&P 500 in May -- its worst month since September -- was about pricing that in.
But it is anyone's guess how far stocks will fall if a Greek exit sparks the Lehman-type event that some investors fear.
Fears that the euro-zone debt crisis is spilling over to the United States sparked fresh buying of U.S., German, Japanese, Swiss and Nordic government debt, which are perceived as safe havens in times of market turbulence.
Yields on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note hit 1.442 percent, the lowest level in records going back to the early 1800s.
At the same time, funding options are narrowing for companies across the globe as issuers are shut out of markets due to risk aversion for weaker credits and demand for spread that is sending costs soaring.
Volume in the robust U.S. investment-grade market has dwindled from $284.8 billion in the first quarter to just $118.7 billion in the first two months of the second quarter, according to data from IFR, a unit of Thomson Reuters. That number is expected to fall even more in the summer.
But not everyone is hitting the sell button. Zahid Siddique, an associate portfolio manager of the Gabelli Equity Trust, said his two-to-four year time horizon and focus on value is allowing him to add to positions in sectors that are getting hit the hardest.
"Companies that we liked before are becoming more attractive from a valuation perspective and we have been buying more of those," he said. "We just buy on any dips and exit when valuations reach our assessment of value."
Siddique said he'd been adding to holdingsin auto suppliers, aerospace and consumer sectors.?
